چکیده
This report describes the initial work with MAPPAMONDO, a ubiquitous computer system set in a kindergarten environment. Its objective is to offer culture knowledge sharing among children to promote cultural awareness and tolerance. In this project the main goal has been to carry out an empirical background study to receive a deeper understanding of the problem domain. In this report we present our findings on related work and empirical investigations, as well as an evaluation of suitable technology. Based on this, we have made a scenario and drawn up requirements, which may be used as a guide in a later design process. Two demonstrators have been made from the scenario. ii iii Preface The project task aims at defining a system for promoting knowledge sharing among children as a way of increasing cultural awareness and tolerance. We would like to thank our supervisor, Professor Monica Divitini of SU/IDI-NTNU, for valuable insights and comments during our project work. We also would like to thank Sonja Kibsgaard and Britt Holm for their interviews, Nordslettveien and Furutoppen Kindergarten for their time and contribution, and Pavel Petrovic for useful advice on LEGO Mindstorms.

Ac 2012-5220: Student Software Engineering Learning via Participation in Humanitarian Foss Projects
Software engineering education has long sought to provide students with real-world software development and professional experience. The use of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) projects is one attractive approach for providing students with easy access to a complex, ongoing project of size that is supported by a professional community. Humanitarian FOSS (HFOSS) projects hold the additional ...
متن کاملEvaluating the Collaboration between a Software Project Management Course and a Software Development Course in Terms of Student Learning and Experience
The ability to manage software teams and the ability to productively interact with a project manager are important skills in many computing professions. The integration into the computer science and software engineering curricula of opportunities for students to learn and exercise these skills, however, could be challenging due to various logistical reasons. The work described in this paper eva...

Assignment text: SEVO (Software EVOlution) is a project, started early 2004, that studies software evolution, especially the evolution of component-based systems and their architecture. More information on the SEVO homepage The assignment intends to make a literature study over the subject, and to perform an empirical study on a software system. The focus is on identifying the most important fa...
متن کاملExperience in Early and Late Software Engineering Project Courses
We report about our experience which we gained in different software engineering project courses at our department. A student who is specialized in software engineering has to finish besides lectures on software engineering and related fields two project courses: an ”early” basic project course and a “late” complex project course. For both of them we developed leveled teaching approaches consid...
متن کاملTackling Real World Complexity in a Software Engineering Student Project - An Experience Report
Developing large-scale complex systems in student projects is not common, due to various constraints like available time, student team sizes, or maximal complexity. However, we succeeded to design a project that was of high complexity and comparable to real world projects. The execution of the project and the results were both successful in terms of quality, scope, and student/teacher satisfact...
